Based in Melbourne and reporting to the Section Leader ANZ Rail Systems – the Principal Design Engineer Signalling will define signalling solutions to meet all client and delivery requirements. You will provide technical leadership and role modelling of Jacobs’ core values, fostering an inclusive and diverse cultural ethos that embodies Jacobs’ Culture of Caring and prioritises the health and wellbeing of your people. Primary responsibilities include

  • Define design solutions which meet the client requirements.
  • Define signalling solutions which meets the client and delivery requirements
  • Working with stakeholders to ensure signalling arrangement plans meet operator, driver and maintainer requirements.
  • Define interface specification for relay and Computer based interlocking
  • Continually improve Jacobs design quality system
  • Checking and approval of signalling designs
  • Define methods to progressively assure against requirements
  • Preparation of technical standards and reports
  • Mentoring of engineers
  • Liaison with clients and contractors
  • Technical design management of signalling
  • Maintain and build on existing client relationships
  • Support and promote a strong service delivery to internal and external clients
  • Contribute to marketing opportunities for new business

You will support the Rail Signalling business to be engaged, resilient and adaptable, and inspire them to strive for innovation while maintaining outstanding project delivery, responsible and proactive technical management. You will support the team through delivery of projects across the various phases of its lifecycle. You will have an excellent understanding of the Rail Safety regulatory environment and knowledge of Accredited Rail Operator review and approval processes.

Key Requirements For The Role

  • Degree in engineering (electrical / electronic / computing, etc.)
  • Qualified Professional Engineer with industry recognition
  • FIRSE of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (Preferred)
