About Strategic People Initiatives at The University of Melbourne

As part of the Chief Human Resources Officer group, the Strategic People Initiatives Centre of Excellence is responsible for the development of University wide people strategies aimed at building the organisational capability to ensure that the University has the right talent to secure its place as Australia’s leading University and its standing in the global market place now and in the future. These include strategies that will redefine how the University attracts, retains and develops talent in line with the University’s vision and aspirations outlined in Advancing Melbourne.

About the role

As Manager – Strategic People Initiatives (SPI), you will oversee the implementation of University wide key learning and development and talent programs. Primarily supporting programs for Manager levels and above, you will also play a support role in developing key talent programs and scoping a University wide approach to learning and development.

This is connected the broader Recruitment strategy and practice to oversee talent pools and support an integrated process to developing succession and talent development. As a core member of the Leadership, Capability and Talent team, you will also play a project management role in executing broader Leadership, talent, performance and career development programs, liaise with external vendors and ensure effective execution of these programs.

About you

You will be a skilled communicator with the ability to manage a variety of stakeholders and establish productive working relationships across a large organisation. You will further be able to conceptualise innovative approaches to talent, L&D, and set up effective approaches to execute these programs.

You will further have:

  • Relevant qualification in HR/L&D/OD/Org Psych or a related field or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Experience in complex matrixed organisations, where they played a key role in developing scaled capability and talent solutions, and effectively implemented these across the organisation.
  • Ability to respond appropriately depending upon the situation; balancing conflicting demands and situations. Ability to deal with ambiguity, change and uncertainty.
  • Ability to conceptualise and develop major programs of work related to learning, talent and organisation development.
  • Ability to interpret complex and conflicting information to gain insights and form solutions. Able to generate options to inform decision making.
