Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Caribbean Government Relations, the Manager, Caribbean Government Relations supports the Director in maintaining and leveraging Adtalem Global Education’s relationships and partnerships with governments, private sector and community partners in the Caribbean nations where Adtalem operates. The Manager organizes outreach to government officials, supports community engagements and helps build strategic relationships across the region. Responsbilities also include monitoring, promoting and advancing policy solutions that align with business objectives by interacting with policymakers, building coalitions and mobilizing grassroots advocacy aligned with Adtalem’s government relations legislative agenda and strategy.


  • Identify and conduct policy research on legislation, business intelligence, and the political and economic landscape in Barbados, Kitts, St. Maarten and across the Caribbean
  • Track and report on relevant legislation; develop tools to help communicate to internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify political and institutional risk(s); provide support to Director with crisis response, preparedness and planning
  • Proactively communicate effectively and consistently with GR team and institutions regarding ongoing policy/legislative efforts, upcoming events, media alerts, policy changes, priorities, and other information which impacts company and its institutions
  • Provide project management support on various Caribbean initiatives and activities, including developing timelines and managing and reporting on multiple workstreams
  • Draft government relations written products to include briefing notes, policy analysis, media updates, political bios, meeting notes, event memos, etc.
  • Develop and execute positive government and community engagement strategies that advocate for Adtalem and its family of institutions, and support their programmatic priorities
  • Financial duties will include researching and monitoring departmental costs, assisting with budgeting for Caribbean GR, preparing payment documentation and obtaining proper approvals when necessary.
  • Work closely with Director, Caribbean GR and Director, Sustainability to execute community projects and follow through with community giving processes and procedures
  • Provide administrative support for internal and external GR related meetings, including scheduling and coordinating with stakeholders, preparing materials, talking points and notes
  • Interface consistently with island nation governments, businesses, international organizations, associations and other stakeholders to build partnerships that further the interest of Adtalem institutions
  • Identify and advance strategic partnerships and public/private partner initiatives that support the policy goals of Adtalem, its affiliated institutions and foundations and further the interests of our students and communities

Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position.   • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in public administration, public policy, communications, political science, international relations, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years professional experience in government relations or public policy in the Caribbean region supporting a Director level position
  • Experience in advocacy in higher education environment desired
  • Solid project management skills with ability to think strategically and translate that thinking into action plans to accomplish wider departmental goals
  • Politically astute and strong knowledge of Caribbean region
  • Experience in legislative research, legislative process, and advocacy
  • Understanding of Westminster and parliamentary democracy political systems, process, and political advocacy techniques
  • Strong political networks in the Caribbean region, particularly in Barbados , St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Maarten
  • Advanced ability to research and analyze policy and communicate findings
  • Demonstrated solid interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Sense of urgency; must possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while simultaneously meeting deadlines in a fast-paced evolving environment
  • Thorough attention to detail and follow-through with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking with a proactive approach to problem-solving; demonstrated programmatic management a must
  • Ability to work remotely and independently, and as part of a team
  • Must be able to work with people from diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
