Ko tā mātou mahi | Our Role

We are on the lookout for an Associate General Counsel to step into a maternity leave cover secondment. As a highly valued member of the General Counsel team, you’ll be responsible for providing leadership and mentoring to your team of three direct reports, building and maintaining strong, trusted relationships with key stakeholders and partnering with leaders across the business with a focus on improving legal operations.

This role is accountable for championing new ways of working and overseeing the legal workflows across the team. You’ll assist with setting the strategic direction of the Kāinga Ora General Counsel Function and lead the rollout of key projects and training programmes, including the upskilling of staff on how to engage with legal in various work streams.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

  • Broad legal experience, focusing on the property area with some experience as an in-house lawyer
  • Proven ability in applying new tools, systems and technologies to promote operational best practice around legal work
  • Sound knowledge in the relevant areas of building & construction law including commercial agreements, litigation and disputes, consumer law, insurance, trade practices, IP, acquisitions, conveyancing etc.
  • Advanced contract review, commercial drafting and negotiation
